Amp, Sub, Wiring Help?

So I have a JL audio 12" w3 2 Ohm subwoofer in a ported box connected to a 500 watt alpine amp. This thing pounds until i turn it up and then it sucks in the low department. 6 guage wire for everything. I was thinking about upgrading the amp or sub but cant decide which one. Single sub setup is only possibility. If i upgrade the amp how would it sound? What if I upgrade both the sub and amp to like a 1000 watt amp and type r at 2 ohms would that bang? Would i get that crazy vibration feeling? What amp or sub should i get? Do i need to upgrade the wiring?
