Somebody help me with my ipod and itunesss.?

okay, so, every time i plug my ipod into my laptop itunes doesnt come up; i have to click it on the desktop thing to get it open. then when i click 'sync' it says its syncing on itunes but not on my ipod so then i take my ipod out of my laptop because it wont sync and then taking it out makes itunes freeze. when i try to re-open itunes after ive closed it because it froze, it wont let me. it just wont open no matter how many times i click it. ive tried to restart my computer, shut it down and start it again, and ive uninstalled then reinstalled itunes also. so if somebody could help me with this that be great because its pissing me off.
