Can i turn my computer into a guitar amp?

I have a 1/4"jack that converts to the 3.5 mm female port, i have a double male 3.5 mm cord that i can plug into the jack and then into my computer, i am aware that i can use the computer for clean settings but i would like to use my guitar on distortion and i was wondering if there was any program that is like an amp on the computer
