My dell laptop touchpad is acting funny but the fix is even more strange?

my scroll function cuts in and out these days but i have found a very strange fix for it. every time it stops working, the quickest way to fix it is to do a yahoo search with any combination of words as long as it includes "dell" and "scroll" once i do that the scroll function is instantly restored. How is that possible?
